Terms of Service
Effective date: August 28, 2026 — Apten Inc.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Perimeter, a domain-monitoring service operated by Apten Inc. ("we," "us," or "our"), accessible at perimeter.thomaspeng.ca. By using Perimeter you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. Service description
Perimeter is a passive external-exposure and typosquat monitoring service for domain owners. It queries public data sources — Certificate Transparency logs (via crt.sh), public DNS resolvers, and RDAP/WHOIS registries — to surface new subdomains, expiring TLS certificates, DNS record changes, and newly-registered lookalike domains associated with domains you choose to monitor.
The service operates in two modes:
- Free one-shot report — an anonymously-accessible, rate-limited scan of a domain you specify. Requires no account. Results are based on publicly-available data and are provided as-is.
- Continuous monitoring (paid subscription) — scheduled scans of one or more verified domains, with email alerts on detected changes. Requires account creation and an active paid subscription.
2. Acceptable use
You may use Perimeter only to monitor domains you own or are explicitly authorised to monitor on behalf of their owner. Using the service to investigate, profile, or monitor domains you do not control is prohibited.
You must not:
- Use Perimeter to monitor domains belonging to third parties without their authorisation
- Automate or script the free report endpoint in ways that circumvent the per-IP rate limit
- Resell, sublicense, or white-label access to the service without prior written agreement
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, circumvent, or disrupt the service infrastructure
- Submit domains to the free report for the purpose of mapping a third party's infrastructure
Violation of this section may result in immediate termination of your account and, where applicable, referral to relevant authorities.
3. Accounts and domain verification
Continuous monitoring requires an account created with a valid email address. Before a domain is
placed under monitoring, you must complete ownership verification — either by placing a DNS TXT record
at _perimeter.<yourdomain> or by serving a challenge token at a well-known URL
on your domain. We will not monitor a domain that has not passed verification. You are responsible
for keeping your account credentials secure.
4. Subscription tiers and billing
Paid subscriptions are offered on a monthly basis at the rates shown on the pricing page. Billing is handled by a third-party payments broker; we do not store your payment card details. By subscribing you authorise the payments broker to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel. Prices are shown in USD and are subject to change with reasonable notice.
A subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period after cancellation. Downgrading or cancelling mid-period does not entitle you to a prorated refund of the current period; see the Refund Policy for exceptions.
5. Data sources and accuracy
Perimeter derives its signals from public registries that may be incomplete, delayed, or temporarily unavailable. Certificate Transparency logs typically reflect new certificate issuance within minutes, but there is no guarantee of real-time completeness. RDAP data for newly-registered domains can lag by hours or days depending on the registry. DNS records reflect the public resolver's cached view at the time of the query.
Perimeter is a monitoring aid, not a guarantee against all threats. It alerts you to changes visible in public data; it cannot detect threats that produce no public signal (for example, a server-side compromise that leaves DNS and CT records unchanged).
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apten Inc. is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Perimeter, including but not limited to data loss, security incidents, or business interruption — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising under these Terms is limited to the amounts you paid us in the three months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Perimeter is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranty, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
7. Termination
You may cancel your subscription and close your account at any time by emailing thomas@thomaspeng.ca or using the account management page. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you violate the acceptable-use provisions, engage in conduct that harms the service or other users, or fail to pay amounts owed after reasonable notice.
8. Modifications to the service and terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated by email to the address on your account at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Apten Inc. is incorporated, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Disputes arising under these Terms that cannot be resolved informally will be submitted to the courts of that jurisdiction.
